Drivers can be tracked better than ever

Fleet Image 1A recent article, I wrote for GearBrain about ways to track employees and teens, show how advanced and accessible tracking of vehicles has gotten. Not only has telematics gotten better but also much cheaper. When these systems are cheaper, we see greater usage.

While interviewing experts, I discovered that not all employees use company cars for work only. A manager who previously used paper record, assumed that his drivers were driving more in December. However after installing a vehicle telematics tracking system, the number of miles driven in December declined greatly. He realized that his employees were using company cars to go Christmas shopping.

An other example discovered by an employer was that the driver was going into the client’s site and left the car running with the heat on for long period. Then there are the employees who take two-hour lunch breaks at Hooters.

A major advantage of telematics systems is reporting that can be exported into other programs.
